We captured Haylie and Stu´s lovely wedding on Taboga Island and Cerrito Tropical on video, even though the day was rather grey the rain held off for the wedding ceremony by the beach. It was a non traditional, relaxed, tropical beach wedding. Just as the bride and groom had planned, and perfect for Taboga Island!

Haylie and Stu´s Wedding at Cerrito Tropical

Haylie and Stu´s Wedding at Cerrito Tropical

Wow, what an honor it was to be chosen to host Haylie and Stu´s intimate wedding event at our own Cerrito Tropical on Taboga Island.

It was our second exciting wedding event at Cerrito Tropical and for this one guests flew in from both the US and Canada to attend! Held just this past Saturday, August 23rd, the rain held off while the romantic couple were married in a small park located at the beach. After the English service the newlyweds ran down to the beach and took a swim fully clothed! It surprised everyone.

The event was certainly the sweetest wedding I have ever attended. The idea was Haylie´s (the bride ) and she did a super job of organizing everything from abroad, with terrific assistance of her friend Eli in Panama. Food was catered by Aristedes and was a simply delicious Tabogan Island feast. I talked to many of the 40 some guests and they all enjoyed themselves, Cerrito Tropical, our service, and Taboga. I wanted to get some of the photos up as soon as I could. More to come…

Congratulations to Haylie and Stu!

Irving Saladino Gold Medal Champion

Irving Saladino Gold Medal Champion

Panama´s Irving Saladino (January 23, 1983 in Colón) won the first gold medal for Panama at the Beijing Olympics. The 2007 world champion (held in Osaka) won Monday with a best jump of 8.34 meters (27-4 1/2); he also holds the South American record (On IAAF, Panama belongs to the South American area).

The entire country will be celebrating. This is Panama´s first gold medal in history, they won 2 bronzes a number of years ago. They called Saladino “The Kangaroo” but days before his jump he made a public statement that he would prefer to be called something else, like “the champion”. “Call me by my name or ‘the champion’, anything other than ‘the kangaroo’ – what’s more, there are no kangaroos in Panama,” Saladino stated. For sure now it will be “The Champion”.

LATEST: The entire country did indeed celebrate declaring a holiday on the day of his arrival. Many people were off work and lined the city streets for the Champion´s parade. The speeches on the podium at the airport where he arrived, and touching song by Ruben Blades, were watched by the entire nation bringing tears to the eyes of even the president.

On a side note, especially for Canadians: For Canada today from my hometown Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Jared Connaughton qualified for the semifinals of the men’s 200 metres Track and Field event at the Summer Olympics in Beijing scheduled for Tuesday. Prince Edward Island is Canada´s smallest province so this is a really big deal for the island.

Unfortunately Jared did not make the finals but ran a very fast race actually beating the time of another competitor who made it to the finals. Well done Jared!
